Cheaper than a conference booth

A booth's floor space alone runs to thousands. A sticker on the laptop of someone attending is in the room for the price of one spot.

What a booth actually costs

Floor space for a standard 10×10 ft booth runs between $10,000 and $15,000 at an average exhibit hall, according to GES’s exhibitor budgeting guide — before the stand, the shipping, the travel and the people to staff it. For a startup that wants to be seen at one event, most of that money buys a square of carpet.

The laptops are going anyway

Conferences are full of open laptops: on the tables of the talks, in the hallway, at the side events and the dinners afterwards. A sticker on the laptop of someone attending is in every one of those rooms, and stays on for months after the event ends.

How to do it

Buy at least two weeks before the event. A seller has up to fourteen days to print and apply the sticker, so a spot bought the week before may not be on the lid in time.

Each listing shows its upcoming stops with dates, so you can check the laptop is going before you buy. Or post a brief that names the event, and the creators going to it hear about it first.

The median spot has sold for $243, paid once for a term of 3 to 24 months. What moves the price.
